How to Write a Job Ad for an SEO Specialist
You are looking for a specialist to promote your business in search results, and the candidate is looking for a job that will allow them to realize their skills. How can you find common ground and meet at this point? Through a job ad for an SEO specialist. A good ad will generate responses, while a generic one will not “hook” anyone and will not bring results. To write a truly excellent text, you need to consider several key points.
Why Generic Job Ads Don’t Attract Candidates
The main problem with standard job ads is that they fail to capture attention. Open any job search website, and you’ll see thousands of identical descriptions. Everyone promises a “friendly team,” “coffee and cookies,” and “opportunities for development.” Applicants are already tired of these clichés and simply skip them. As a result, your vacancy gets lost in the general flow, and people may not even read to the essence, i.e., the real benefits of working with you.

This creates two major issues. Firstly, when the text is too general, people apply without even reading the details. Recruiters receive hundreds of resumes, but most of them do not meet the requirements. This leads to a waste of time reviewing irrelevant candidates. Secondly, because the ad doesn’t stand out, true professionals who value their time might ignore it. As a result, you receive very few quality responses or are forced to hire a less competent specialist just to fill the vacancy.
A job description is your marketing tool. The better you “sell” your offer, the higher quality specialists you will attract.
What to Include in an SEO Specialist Job Ad
For the ad to truly work, you need to make it unique and as specific as possible. Put yourself in the applicant’s shoes – what information would they want to see? Then, craft the text to include important elements.
Job Title
The title should be short, easy to understand, and specific. It must accurately reflect the essence of the activity — in our case, an SEO specialist. This is what applicants search for. Avoid unclear corporate abbreviations and overly creative terms. You can add the department or company name.
Job Summary and Brief Description
This section provides a general overview of the position and immediately clarifies why the role is needed and who exactly you are looking for. In one or two sentences, describe the ideal candidate and their key task. For example: “We are looking for an experienced SEO specialist to launch a new international e-commerce project into the market.” Here, it’s also worth briefly introducing the company, giving an idea of your culture, main advantages, and goals, as well as what you do and are proud of. This is an important element to pique the candidate’s interest.

Reason for the Vacancy
SEO specialists are interested in knowing why a company is looking for a new employee. State the reason for the search: whether you are opening a new direction, expanding a branch, or if it’s a new position.
Job Responsibilities and Tasks
This key section describes as accurately as possible what the applicant will do. In an SEO specialist job description, it’s important not just to list functions, but also to explain:
- each task and responsibility;
- expected results;
- future challenges;
- software or systems to be used.
The description should be specific, not general, and stimulate interest in the position.
Requirements
The list helps the candidate assess whether they are suitable for the position. Maintain a balance, setting neither too high nor too low requirements. It is best to divide the conditions into mandatory (experience, education, key skills) and additional ones that would be an advantage. Avoid general phrases like “ability to work in a team.” Instead, specify concrete skills.
Salary and Conditions
It is very important to indicate the salary range, preferably minimum and maximum values, as this strongly influences the decision to apply. Do not use the phrase “based on interview results.” In the “Conditions” section, specify bonuses, such as medical insurance, paid vacation, tuition reimbursement, and flexible hours.

Type, Location, and Work Schedule
Clearly state whether the vacancy is for full-time or part-time employment. Required points:
- location (office/geolocation);
- format (remote, hybrid work);
- schedule (full-time/part-time week, fixed/flexible schedule).
This will help your potential employee understand how convenient it will be for them.
Call to Action and Contact Information
To complete the process, clearly explain to the person how to apply for the vacancy, what to do next: call, send a resume by email, or click the “Apply” button. If you plan to give a test assignment or ask for something to be indicated in the cover letter, write about it.
The more specific and honest you are in each point, the higher the quality of the responses received will be.
SEO Specialist Job Ad: What Not to Write
The most important rule is to comply with legislation, particularly the Law of Ukraine “On Employment of the Population.” It strictly prohibits any discriminatory requirements based on gender, nationality, skin color, age, place of residence, marital status, religion, language, or political views. The only exceptions are specific types of work that can only be performed by persons of a certain gender. For violating these requirements, an employer may be fined ten times the minimum wage established at the time of detection of the violation.

In addition to legal restrictions, it is worth avoiding stylistic errors that deter professionals. Do not use excessive, inappropriate creativity, humor, or too many epithets. Avoid “fluff” and verbose, non-specific descriptions. Specificity attracts serious candidates.
